CoinDesk withdraws two articles citing issues with ‘standard’
CoinDesk, a renowned cryptocurrency platform, has withdrawn two opinion articles due to “standard” issues, contradicting the company’s policy.
An anonymous crypto influencer named Cryptadamist tweeted that CoinDesk removed an article comparing Justin Sun, the founder of the Tron blockchain, with Do Kwon and Sam Bankman-Fried. The tweet included a screenshot of a note from CoinDesk’s editor-in-chief, stating that they would correct the article, address the problem with the writer or editor, and move forward.
Additionally, CoinDesk retracted another article criticizing the accuracy of a software used by the blockchain analysis company Chainalysis. Elizabeth Bisbee, the head of investigations at Chainalysis, claimed that there was no scientific evidence to support the software’s accuracy. Lola Leetz, as stated in a tweet, was not notified of the retraction by CoinDesk and criticized the company for not disclosing its parent company DCG’s significant investment in Chainalysis Inc. Leetz mentioned that the article was later published by Bitcoin Magazine, another popular crypto platform.
The crypto community has expressed disappointment with CoinDesk’s handling of these retractions. Ajit Tripathi, a strategic advisor at Polygon Labs, mocked CoinDesk in a tweet, suggesting that the company could not afford a lawsuit from well-funded litigators.
CoinDesk recently laid off 40% of its editorial staff to ensure a financially stable future and facilitate the sale of CoinDesk Inc.
