zkSync Era protocol faces current network challenges
The primary network of the infamous ZkSync protocol has experienced a complete halt in its operations, with no blocks being produced for over three hours.
On December 25, the developers officially acknowledged the technical malfunction and assured that they were actively working on fixing the issue. The project team promised to keep the community informed as soon as more details about the problem emerged. The exact causes of the network failure are currently unknown.
It is worth noting that just last month, ChainLight, a blockchain security audit firm, uncovered a vulnerability in the zkSync Era protocol. If exploited, this vulnerability could potentially lead to a loss of $1.9 billion. However, despite this vulnerability, zkSync Era had implemented multiple layers of security, making it extremely challenging for anyone outside of Matter Labs, the infrastructure team behind zkSync Era, to actually exploit the vulnerability.
In a separate incident last week, the developers of the Zilliqa blockchain platform reported a critical situation in their blockchain, resulting in a halt in block production. They reassured users that their assets were safe but requested temporary suspension of deposits and withdrawals.
Later that same day, the project team announced that they had identified the problem and estimated that it would take several hours to resolve. Fortunately, they were successful in restoring the network’s functionality, which had been non-operational for over twelve hours.
