Vitalik Buterin Endorses TikTok as a Platform
Vitalik Buterin, one of the co-founders of Ethereum (ETH), recently praised the groundbreaking image compression method known as Token for Image Tokenizer (TiTok AI). He stated that this new technology is capable of encoding images to a large enough size to be included on the blockchain.
Buterin shared his thoughts on TiTok AI on his Warpcast social media platform, referring to it as a unique way to “encode a profile picture.” He expressed excitement over the possibility of compressing images to 320 bits, which he described as “essentially a hash,” making them small enough to be stored on the blockchain for all users.
The Ethereum co-founder’s interest in TiTok AI was piqued by a post from a researcher at Leonardo AI, an artificial intelligence image generator platform. The researcher, identified as @Ethan_smith_20, explained how the method could be used to successfully encode intricate visuals into 32 tokens, allowing for the reinterpretation of high-frequency details within images.
Buterin believes that TiTok AI has the potential to simplify the process for developers and creators to generate profile pictures and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
TiTok AI, a collaboration between TikTok’s parent company ByteDance and the University of Munich, is described as an innovative one-dimensional tokenization framework, diverging from traditional two-dimensional methods. Utilizing AI technology, TiTok can compress 256 by 256-pixel images into 32 distinct tokens, addressing previous challenges faced by other image tokenization methods.
By tokenizing images into 1D latent sequences, TiTok eliminates redundancies within images and offers a more efficient storage solution for blockchain platforms. This approach not only enhances processing speed but also boasts speeds up to 410 times faster than current technologies, marking a significant advancement in computational efficiency.
In addition, TiTok AI’s tokenization strategy could revolutionize image storage on blockchain platforms and provide a more streamlined and efficient solution for developers and users alike.
