Tucker Carlson remains at the forefront of breaking news and retains his influential position

Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered pointed comments regarding the use of the US dollar as a political instrument in recent remarks. During an interview with conservative pundit Tucker Carlson, Putin criticized American leadership and the Biden administration for using the dollar as a tool in foreign policy struggles. The strict economic sanctions imposed on Russia since its attempted invasion of Ukraine aim to hinder Russian banks from conducting transactions in the dollar, pound, and euro, thereby limiting the country’s resources for the war and shrinking its economy.

Putin stated, “Using the dollar as a tool in foreign policy struggles is one of the biggest strategic mistakes made by US political leadership. It is the primary weapon used by the United States to maintain its global power. The decision to use the US dollar as a political tool has dealt a blow to American power. It is a foolish and grave mistake.”

Putin also highlighted the progress made by the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) in using alternative currencies for trade. While the greenback remains dominant in global reserves, recent data from the International Monetary Fund revealed that it accounted for 59.17% of global reserves in the third quarter of 2023.

Despite Putin’s remarks, top economists have dismissed the idea of any currency replacing the US dollar as “ridiculous.” However, Carlson shares Putin’s criticism of the dollar. During a business conference in Las Vegas in November 2023, Carlson advocated for Bitcoin as a means to free individuals from the control of authorities. He believes that Bitcoin’s value lies in its potential to provide independence from the devaluation of traditional currencies.

This growing trend has raised concerns about the dollar’s continued dominance as the global reserve currency, particularly in light of the US’s $34 trillion national debt.

Following the interview, Carlson faced criticism from other media outlets for not challenging Putin’s claims on various other topics. Some observers even labeled him a “useful idiot” for seemingly using the interview to appeal to his far-right audience during an election year. It is worth noting that Donald Trump, whom Carlson supports and who is a front-runner for the 2024 US presidential election, recently suggested that he would “encourage” Russia to attack NATO allies.

Putin has denied allegations of intending to attack other NATO nations, but the White House does not believe his statements hold credibility. “Remember, you’re listening to Vladimir Putin,” said White House national security spokesman John Kirby. “And you shouldn’t take anything he says at face value.”

Overall, there are ongoing discussions about the future of the US dollar as the global reserve currency, especially considering the US’s significant national debt.
