Truth Terminal founders X account hijacked by crypto scammers
Crypto scammers have taken control of the X account belonging to Andy Ayrey, the creator of Truth Terminal, in order to promote a questionable meme coin. As of now, the scammers still have control of the account and have managed to make over $600,000 by promoting a token called Infinite Backrooms (IB). This token is named after an AI chatroom experiment that led to the creation of the AI-powered X account Truth Terminal.
The hacker initially announced the token through a now-deleted post on October 29th. They used the catchphrase “the mad dreams of an electric mind” from the AI Chatroom project and included a contract address for the token. Unsuspecting users quickly jumped at the opportunity to make money and drove the token’s value up to $25 million at its peak, according to Dexscreener data. Shortly after the launch, the scammers sold 124.6 million IB tokens and made off with $602,500.
At the time of writing, the token’s market cap has dropped to under $2.5 million due to news of Ayrey’s compromised X account. The scammers continue to have control of the account and have been promoting a Telegram group called “Solana printers” while hinting at the launch of another token. To generate excitement for the upcoming token, the scammers have promised an airdrop to anyone who shares and promotes their Telegram group, which currently has just over 1600 members.
Ayrey gained attention in the crypto space when his AI bot, Truth Terminal, endorsed a meme coin called Goatseus Maximus (GOAT). This coin was part of an internet meme-inspired “religion” proposed by the bot and gained significant value, reaching over $850 million as major exchanges like Binance listed it. Both Truth Terminal and Ayrey have since built a strong following in the crypto community.
Scammers targeting X accounts to promote fraudulent tokens has become a common occurrence in the crypto space. From celebrities to prominent crypto projects, these exploits have exposed serious security vulnerabilities and raised concerns about X’s ability to protect users from targeted scams. While the platform has been able to recover compromised accounts in the past, this recent attack highlights the ongoing issue.
