Theta Labs Introduces Groundbreaking Tool Enabling Smartphone GPU Conversion for TFUEL Token Mining

Theta Labs has introduced EdgeCloud for Mobile, an innovative solution that allows users to contribute the GPU power of their smartphones as nodes in a decentralized network and earn TFUEL tokens. This new platform aims to leverage the computing resources of the approximately 3.9 billion active Android devices globally to strengthen its decentralized cloud computing network. Theta EdgeCloud, powered by DePIN, is a hybrid cloud-edge computing platform that utilizes over 30,000 distributed nodes to provide scalable and cost-effective GPU computing resources. As smartphones continue to become more powerful and capable of handling complex computations, this platform aims to capitalize on their capabilities.

Mitch Liu, the co-founder and CEO of Theta Labs, believes that by including smartphones as part of the decentralized network, the platform can significantly enhance its operational scale. Liu stated, “By expanding from 30,000 PC nodes to potentially millions of mobile devices, this move greatly enhances our network’s capabilities. Each device contributes to our distributed GPU power.”

These mobile devices will assist with AI computations, such as video object detection, by performing small parallel tasks. Theta Labs estimates that if only 30,000 Android devices contribute their GPU power for eight hours a day, they can generate 240,000 hours of computational work in a single day.

The EdgeCloud mobile application, currently available on the Google Play Store, offers users the flexibility to share resources only when their device is connected to a power source or Wi-Fi network. This ensures minimal battery drain and data usage while contributing to the network and earning passive income. Users are rewarded with TFUEL tokens, the native token of the Theta Network, for committing their resources. At present, TFUEL has experienced a 98.8% increase in value over the past year.

The application is compatible with any Android phone or tablet manufactured after 2020 and has no geographical restrictions. Theta EdgeCloud has already formed partnerships with various academic institutions that utilize its resources for advanced AI research in fields such as media, healthcare, bioinformatics, and finance. The latest addition to the DePIN-powered network is the Seoul Women’s University.
