Solana Labs co-founder deems label as unimpressive

Anatoly Yakovenko, one of the founding minds behind Solana Labs, has expressed his disagreement with the phrase commonly used to label the Solana network as an “Ethereum killer.” In a post on X, Yakovenko stated that he does not foresee a scenario where Solana flourishes at the expense of Ethereum’s demise. Yakovenko believes that the term “Ethereum killer” is “lame” and argues that despite the similarities between Solana and Ethereum, the latter will not be overshadowed by the former.

Yakovenko expressed concern over the growing tension, which he compared to a “cold war,” between Ethereum and other blockchain protocols, including Solana. He believes that such hostile narratives hinder the overall growth of the shared digital ecosystem. Instead, Yakovenko sees the connection between Solana and Ethereum as a path to shared growth and advancement.

Yakovenko emphasized that blockchain technologies like Solana and Ethereum, with their similar features, can coexist and compete without causing harm. He supported his stance with the concept of Pareto efficiency, explaining that technologies can share features and still succeed independently.

Yakovenko also spoke positively about advancements in blockchain technology, specifically mentioning “danksharding,” an Ethereum scaling solution aimed at increasing transactional capacity. He envisions a future where such technology could accommodate all of Solana’s data, further reinforcing his belief in technological coexistence.

In the past, the Solana network outperformed the Ethereum mainnet in terms of speed and power efficiency due to its proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus system. At that time, Ethereum utilized the more energy-intensive proof-of-work (PoW) consensus method and could only process a fraction of the transactions that Solana could handle.

Overall, Yakovenko’s perspective challenges the notion of Solana as an Ethereum killer and promotes a more collaborative and cooperative approach between different blockchain protocols.
