Roblox, a prominent advocate of the Metaverse, allegedly requests employees to resume office work

Roblox, a prominent advocate of the metaverse, is now urging its employees to return to the office. The company is reportedly transitioning from remote-only work to a hybrid model, with CEO David Baszucki calling for employees to start working from the San Mateo office by the summer of 2024.

In a corporate letter, Baszucki outlined the new work model, stating that employees would be expected to work three days in the office from Tuesday to Thursday. He also explained that virtual workspaces are currently not as engaging and productive as physical ones.

Employees have until January 16, 2024, to decide if they want to continue working at Roblox under the new rules. Baszucki clarified that not all positions will be required to return to the office, ensuring that jobs that need to remain remote will not be affected.

At the time of writing, Roblox has not made any public statements regarding this change. Crypto.news has reached out to Roblox for comment and will update the article accordingly.

This decision by Roblox appears to contradict the company’s previous advocacy for the metaverse. A search of Roblox’s posts on X reveals that the company has used the term “metaverse” numerous times to draw attention to its activities. It remains uncertain if the decision to bring employees back to the office signifies a shift in the company’s focus away from the metaverse.
