Record-breaking NFT sale secures Autoglyphs set for $14.6m, marking the largest transaction since 2022

A collector recently made history by purchasing a complete set of 10 Autoglyphs for 5,000 ETH, equivalent to approximately $14.6 million in today’s value. This transaction stands as the highest-selling NFT in the past two years and the fifth-largest on-chain purchase to date.

The sale was facilitated through Fountain.xyz, a platform specializing in rare digital art brokerage. Although the buyer wished to remain anonymous, a representative revealed that they have a background in collecting traditional analog art and consider Autoglyphs to be on par with conventional art acquisitions.

Autoglyphs were first introduced by Larva Labs, the creators behind the famous CryptoPunks, in 2019. They represent the pinnacle of generative art on the Ethereum blockchain. Unlike many NFTs that rely on off-chain storage, Autoglyphs have every aspect of their creation and visual output directly recorded on the blockchain. This solves the off-chain storage issues faced by previous projects like CryptoPunks.

The collection consists of 512 pieces, each of which is immutable and free of royalties. Autoglyphs are regarded as the purest form of generative art within the blockchain space. The acquired set is one of only seven complete sets and is among the three developer sets curated and minted directly by Matt Hall and John Watkinson of Larva Labs. It was also previously part of the esteemed “Old School Collection.”

This purchase further cements Autoglyphs’ legacy, which has already seen over $50 million in secondary sales and exhibitions at renowned venues such as Centre Pompidou and Sotheby’s.
