Potential anti-corruption chief nominee shows indications of being a holder of alternative cryptocurrencies.
According to an official declaration, it appears that Kateryna Kapliuk, a candidate for the head of Ukraine’s National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), is a holder of DOGE and LUNC. Kapliuk, a former journalist at Ukrainska Pravda, revealed in her declaration that she acquired over 30 altcoins during her time at the agency. The declaration states that she bought multiple cryptocurrencies until mid-2022, with a total value of 127,165 UAH (approximately $4,778).
Although it is uncertain whether Kapliuk still possesses the cryptocurrencies mentioned in the declaration, the document reveals that she made purchases of over 19.3 million SHIB tokens, more than 39.7 billion DOGE tokens, and slightly over 0.01 BTC, among other altcoins like DASH, ZEN, and BTT, in 2021 alone. The declaration also states that, except for 0.007 BTC, all the tokens were held on Binance. As of now, Kapliuk has not made any public statements regarding this matter.
In early December 2023, NACP seized crypto assets worth $1.5 million from Yury Shchigol, the former chief of the Special Communications Service. Shchigol and his deputy, Victor Zhor, were accused of misappropriating approximately $1.8 million in government funds. Their alleged scheme involved the Special Communications Service overpaying for software and services from two unnamed companies. The seized assets from Shchigol included 6.9 BTC, $1.2 million in USDT, and 331 TRX. Zhor has also been arrested.
It is important to note that regulatory voids are hindering web3 startups in Ukraine, as stated in a report. Ukraine is taking steps to regulate crypto in accordance with FATF requirements.
