Max Keiser strongly criticizes Javier Milei’s cryptocurrency policy
Max Keiser, an advisor to El Salvador President Nayib Bukele on Bitcoin (BTC) matters, has criticized Argentina’s president Javier Milei for his stance on cryptocurrencies, referring to it as a “rookie mistake.” Milei, who assumed the Argentine presidential seat in December, has implemented aggressive economic policies to rescue the country’s collapsing economy and combat the devaluation of the Argentine peso. While Milei’s support for Bitcoin has been praised by the crypto community at large, it has also drawn criticism from certain Bitcoin advocates. Keiser, a Bitcoin maximalist, believes that Bitcoin is distinct from the broader crypto ecosystem, which has contributed to the opposition to Milei’s position. This opposition was reflected in Argentina’s recent regulation on cryptocurrencies. The country’s securities regulator, the Comisión Nacional de Valores, recently introduced a rule requiring the mandatory registration of all entities operating as Virtual Assets Services Providers in Argentina. This legislation applies to entities involved in activities such as buying, selling, trading, and transferring crypto tokens, including Bitcoin. Keiser argues that Milei’s decision to categorize Bitcoin as part of the crypto ecosystem is a mistake that undermines his economic reform agenda. Keiser believes that El Salvador President Bukele has a better understanding of the Bitcoin agenda than Milei. El Salvador became the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender in 2021, while Milei has hinted at dollarizing the Argentine economy instead of embracing Bitcoin.
