Former Interpol President joins TRM Labs as senior advisor
TRM Labs, a company specializing in blockchain forensics, has made a significant addition to its leadership team by appointing Boon Hui Khoo as a senior advisor. This move reflects the firm’s strategic decision to enhance its regulatory outreach efforts, particularly in the Asia Pacific region.
Khoo’s role at TRM Labs will involve combating fraud and financial crime in the cryptocurrency sector, as well as establishing stronger connections with regulatory bodies around the world. Esteban Castaño, the CEO of TRM Labs, expressed confidence in Khoo’s extensive experience and highlighted the valuable insights he brings to facilitate collaboration with law enforcement and regulatory partners across the Asia Pacific.
Before entering the blockchain industry, Boon Hui Khoo served as Singapore’s Commissioner of Police from 1997 to 2010, followed by a term as the president of Interpol from 2008 to 2012. Additionally, from 2017 to 2019, Khoo acted as an independent commissioner on the Global Commission on the Stability of Cyberspace, which is a public-private internet governance forum.
TRM Labs’ decision to expand its board of advisors aligns with similar actions taken by its main competitor, Chainalysis. On April 8, Chainalysis, headquartered in New York, announced the appointment of former International Revenue Service crime chief Jim Lee as the global head of capacity building. Lee’s primary focus at Chainalysis is to assist international agencies in devising strategies to combat crypto-related crimes.
