Doom, the iconic 1993 video game, is now available on the Dogecoin blockchain.
A game developer named Mini Doge recently made headlines by successfully launching the classic game Doom on the Dogecoin blockchain. This impressive feat was achieved using a technology called Inscriptions.
Mini Doge discovered that the 1993 game Doom had been inscribed onto the Dogecoin blockchain, allowing it to be played directly from the blockchain. The game even supports full-screen mode and can be controlled with a mouse. Interested players can access the game by following the link provided in the Content section. However, Mini Doge cautioned that the initial boot-up process may take approximately one minute.
In order to bring this project to life, Mini Doge utilized the “inscription” technology, which involves tokens based on the DRC-20 standard. When the client is deployed, all the necessary data is pulled directly from the Dogecoin blockchain.
The launch of Doom on the Dogecoin blockchain generated significant online activity, similar to what was observed when Inscriptions were introduced to the Bitcoin network.
It’s worth noting that the Inscriptions feature has faced criticism in the past. The US National Vulnerability Database (NVD) has identified certain “inscriptions” created in the Ordinals protocol as a cybersecurity threat to the Bitcoin network. According to the NVD warning, certain versions of Bitcoin Core and Bitcoin Knots are vulnerable to BRC-20 bypassing restrictions on data transfer in transactions by disguising it as code. Being listed in the NVD signifies that a cybersecurity vulnerability has been thoroughly studied, categorized, and deemed important for public attention.
