Developer urges community to refrain from underestimating Bitcoin Ordinals

Renowned Bitcoin developer Udi Wertheimer has come out in support of Bitcoin Ordinals, despite facing criticism from various quarters of the industry.

In a recent post on X, Wertheimer acknowledged the widespread rejection of Bitcoin Ordinals but stood firm in his advocacy for their adoption, opposing those who seek to eradicate them.

Wertheimer pointed out that numerous influential teams possess talented developers, and he urged his 183,400 followers to explore the potential of this technology.

However, while emphasizing the significance of Ordinals in the Bitcoin blockchain, Wertheimer also stressed that he considers Bitcoin’s role as a store of value to be of utmost importance. Furthermore, he dismissed concerns about Bitcoin Ordinals, arguing that the lack of demand for Bitcoin payments mitigates any potential issues.

In December, Bitcoin Core developer Luke Dashjr discovered a vulnerability in the Bitcoin blockchain and admitted that fixing this vulnerability would result in the disappearance of Ordinals and the BRC-20 standard. Dashjr explained that the ability to create digital artifacts is only possible because Bitcoin Core does not impose restrictions on the size of additional data that can be included in transactions. He further contended that Ordinals pose a significant and irreversible threat to Bitcoin and its users.
