Developer retention and global growth in the Solana ecosystem experience a significant surge.
Solana’s developer retention rates experienced a remarkable surge in 2023, increasing from 31% to over 50% within a three-month period, according to a report by the Solana Foundation. This significant improvement can be attributed to the implementation of more effective onboarding processes for developers and the creation of new opportunities within the Solana ecosystem.
The evaluation of retention rates specifically focused on developers who consistently made at least one commit over three consecutive months. It is worth noting that around 400-500 Solana developers graduated from various bootcamps every six months, resulting in a 500% growth in job listings throughout the year.
Data from GitHub revealed that the enhanced retention rate led to a consistent count of monthly active developers ranging from 2,500 to 3,000 within the Solana ecosystem in 2023. The Solana Foundation highlighted advancements in tooling for multiple programming languages and the availability of additional educational resources as key factors contributing to this positive trend. However, the foundation also acknowledged the need for improvement in areas such as testing and debugging.
The Solana Foundation emphasized the global growth of the ecosystem, highlighting initiatives like SuperteamDAO expanding to eight countries in 2023. The participation of developers from over 150 countries in hackathons further demonstrated the platform’s worldwide reach.
Over the past three years, more than 3,000 projects were launched through hackathons, securing over $600 million in funding. The most recent hackathon, Solana Hyperdrive, received an impressive 900 submissions, setting a new record.
It is worth noting that this surge in developer activity coincided with a remarkable year for Solana’s native cryptocurrency, SOL. The price of SOL experienced a remarkable 1,000% increase, rising from $10 to $102, making it the top-performing major altcoin in 2023. Currently, SOL is trading at $101, and Solana continues to set new records for new and active monthly addresses in December, amidst a notable price rally.
