Curio Ecosystem Experiences $40m Worth of CGT Tokens Created by Skilled Hacker
The Curio defi project has fallen victim to a cyber attack, with experts from Cyvers Alerts estimating the resulting damage to be around $16 million.
According to analysts at Cyvers Alerts, it is believed that the hack occurred as a result of a vulnerability in the permissioned access logic, which allowed the attacker to generate an additional 1 billion CGT tokens. This enabled the hacker to gain control of CGT tokens worth nearly $40 million.
The warning from Cyvers Alerts follows a previous announcement by Curio regarding a smart contract exploit. It has been revealed that the MakerDAO-based smart contract, which was utilized within the ecosystem, was specifically targeted on the Ethereum platform.
In February, the crypto industry witnessed a decrease in losses caused by hacks and scams, with the figure standing at approximately $67 million. This is roughly half of the total recorded in January. It is worth noting that all of the attack vectors during the reporting period were related to the defi sector, with no significant incidents reported on centralized platforms.
Within the month of February, the majority of losses were incurred by the gaming platform PlayDapp, which suffered a loss of $32.35 million, and the decentralized exchange FixedFloat, which was hit with a loss of $26.1 million.
