Craig Wright’s assets worth $7.6m frozen by UK court
Craig Wright, who claimed to be the creator of Bitcoin but was recently proven to be otherwise, has been hit with a global freeze on his assets by a British court. The ruling comes as a result of a lawsuit filed by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), which sought to establish that Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto. Judge James Mellor, who presided over the case, determined that Wright did not invent Bitcoin or contribute to its early development. The freeze on Wright’s assets, amounting to $7.6 million, is aimed at securing funds to cover COPA’s legal costs, with concerns that Wright may attempt to move his assets offshore to avoid payment. In response, Wright has transferred shares from his company to a Singapore-based entity. Despite previously offering to settle the dispute out of court to avoid mounting expenses, Wright’s offer was rejected by COPA.
