Algorand chosen by United Nations to create blockchain training program for 22k staff members.

In an official statement released on November 30, 2023, the Algorand Foundation revealed its collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to establish a blockchain academy. This academy, known as the Algorand Blockchain Academy, is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2024. Its primary objective is to enhance the capabilities of the UNDP staff by offering education and training in blockchain technology.

The Algorand Blockchain Academy aims to provide recorded lectures and interactive workshops to approximately 22,000 UNDP employees. Through this initiative, the staff members will acquire knowledge about how blockchain can be utilized to expand financial services to marginalized communities and improve transparency in supply chains. Robert Pasicko, an expert on Low Carbon Development and Alternative Finance at UNDP, expressed his belief that this collaboration will equip the team with the necessary tools to address complex global challenges using blockchain technology.

CoinGecko data indicates that following this announcement, the value of Algorand’s native token ALGO rose by more than 2%, reaching a trading price of $0.13.

It is worth noting that this is not the first endeavor by the United Nations to explore the potential of blockchain technology. In July 2023, the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF) and the Government Blockchain Association (GBA) joined forces to establish standards for blockchain technology. The partnership introduced the Dynamic Coalition on Blockchain Assurance and Standardization, which utilizes the GBA’s maturity model to promote the adoption of blockchain and ensure compatibility across networks.
