ETH team leader claims majority of ETH customers
Péter Szilágyi, the team lead of Ethereum, has expressed concerns about the increasing reliance on the Geth software client, also known as Go Ethereum. He highlighted the potential implications for data availability and network decentralization. Szilágyi compared the situation to the debates surrounding Bitcoin’s development. The issue lies in the growing dependence on Geth for data storage as Ethereum aims to scale up. Many Ethereum clients, apart from Geth, are aggressively deleting old chain segments that they deem unnecessary. While this may optimize storage in the short term, Szilágyi raised concerns about the long-term resilience and decentralization of the Ethereum network. He warned about the risks associated with data dependency and the consequences of widespread data purging. The Ethereum community has long grappled with concerns over dependency on Ethereum clients, with over 40% relying on Geth and nearly 38% on Nethermind. This has prompted major crypto companies like Coinbase to explore alternative Ethereum execution clients to diversify their infrastructure.
