BNB chain introduces BEP 336 enhancement inspired by Ethereum
BNB Smart Chain has revealed its upcoming major upgrade, BEP 336, which draws inspiration from Ethereum’s EIP 4844. As per the BNB chain, BEP 336 will have a significant impact on reducing transaction costs and enhancing network performance. This development coincides with the launch of Ethereum’s Dencun upgrade on the mainnet today, marking a momentous day for blockchain technology.
The upgrade introduces “Blob-Carrying Transactions” (BlobTx), which allows for the temporary and cost-effective storage of large data chunks up to 128 KB. This approach simplifies the process of verifying transactions on the network. BNB Smart Chain (BSC) improves efficiency by verifying the accuracy of data within blobs rather than individually verifying each transaction. This feature is particularly advantageous for opBNB, the layer 2 network of the BNB ecosystem.
The upgrade consists of a blob market and a precompile contract. The blob market regulates the storage and transmission costs of blobs based on network demand, while the precompile contract adds an additional layer of security by verifying the data in blobs against their references in transactions.
BEP 336 sets itself apart from Ethereum’s EIP 4844 with features such as a dynamic gas pricing mechanism for blobs and a different token burn mechanism, reflecting the unique needs and structure of BSC.
BEP 336 will be rolled out in phases. It will debut on the testnet in April, followed by a Magnet phase in May for further testing and optimization. The upgrade is scheduled to launch on the BSC mainnet in June through a hard fork.
