Theta Labs and University of Oregons Distopia Lab form AI research partnership

Theta Labs and the University of Oregon’s Distopia Laboratory are embarking on a multi-year partnership in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) research. The collaboration will be spearheaded by Assistant Professor Suyash Gupta, as announced by the Theta Labs team in a blog post on October 29. Theta Labs had previously launched its hybrid cloud computing platform for AI, video, rendering, and gaming, called EdgeCloud, in February, with the first phase going live in May. The University of Oregon is renowned for its research in distributed systems, blockchain, and federated learning, and Dr. Gupta’s work in the intersection of AI and blockchain has been instrumental in advancing research in this area. Theta EdgeCloud’s technology has applications in various sectors such as healthcare, media, finance, and bioinformatics. Through this partnership, Theta Network aims to expand its decentralized AI technology by incorporating EdgeCloud in the academic sector. This collaboration highlights the increasing adoption of decentralized cloud infrastructure in academic research and the funding potential that cryptocurrencies provide for ambitious academic projects. By partnering with projects like Theta Network, universities and other institutions can pursue advanced research without the constraints of limited budgets. Theta Labs has already established a strong presence in South Korea by partnering with four out of the country’s top five universities.
